My sister purchase this book on my behalf. Having served in Sussex Police, been on a murder team, which like the author, was one of the highs of my career, not because of someone dying but the team work and long hours involved. I was also involved in arrests for murder. As the title of this review states murder has occurred for many centuries and has always been a fascination of human beings. The author of this book goes at great lengths to help the reader to understand the laws and procedures practised by police officers and supporting staff at the time of the loss of human life. He also shows the changes to procedures over the last 40+ years.
It is always good to get hold of a book that keeps the reader focused and makes it hard to put the book down. Kevin Moore certainly succeeded in doing this for me, with a mixture of things that I was not aware of and many of the cases that I had heard about not just while serving but also since retiring. It is refreshing to have an honest account of not only the successes by police officers including Mr Moore but also for the cases where the conclusion was not as successful prosecution.
There is always a great pressure for the police to get it right and this does not take into account that all police officers are human beings and as much as anyone else can make mistakes. As a retired police officer I had some knowledge of the laws and procedures, however the situation has changed since the time of my retirement. It is fascinating to see the various scientific issues such as DNA have made great inroads into investigations. Like so many others I find crime especially murder a great subject for Viewing be it Morse or one of the more modern scientifically based police programs.
