Kevin Moore is one of the very finest police officers I’ve been privileged to meet, as well as being one of the most respected by the entire Force. This wonderfully written and endlessly fascinating book gives a quite unique insight into how policing works and how much it has changed in the past 50 years. It will appeal both to any one with an interest in Policing, but equally to anyone with a love of crime fiction”.

“Determination, an eye for detail and a memory like an elephant. Kevin Moore’s reflections on policing past and present make for a fascinating read”.
Matt Johnson endorsement of ‘My Way’
This is an excellent book written by a highly respected retired Senior Police Officer. His observations on the changes which have affected the Police Over the last forty years are reminder to those who served throughout that time of the effect of increasing bureaucracy and politicisation of the service. In my view this book should be read by Members of Parliament, Local Governement Officials and elected representatives and most importantly anyone in the Police Service seeking any managerial role. I couldn’t put it down.”
Ahmed Ramiz
An excellent and honest well presented written account of an outstanding Police career. The many changes in the three decades of service without doubt explain many of the problems society perceive of the organisation today”
Roger Mead
I would highly recommend this book. It is a professional and honest account of the changes in policing over the last few decades and how strong leadership and skilled investigation can produce some amazing results”
Martin F Stevens
A fascinating and very honest insight into the life and times of a high achieving detective. This book will be of particular interest to those with a local connection to East Sussex”
Jane Muggridge
Constructively Belligerent!” An apt description of the author who’s straightforward no nonsense approach to policing gained him respect as a detective & police leader. Essential reading for anyone with an interest in policing, but particularly those considering a police career.”
Malcolm Richards
Very well written book showing how policing has changed over the last half a century. The author was a well respected police officer and is sadly missed within the many ranks of Sussex Police.”
Terry Edgeler
Well, at long last managed to finish your book. Great read on the beach. Seems like you are the same person today as you were then, standing up for what you believe in. Back then, you knew it could effect your promotion prospects, but that was irrelevant, truth was better than bullshit and you still got bloody promoted. My only minor problem with the books was that, I could find no reference to Frank Sinatra . Maybe come out in My Way 2.”
Brian Peden
This is a story about life in the Police of recent years. We have a Police Force that is manacled by to much interference from the outside. To many career chasers, none of whom would willing put the life of themselves or their families on the Line. The modern police force is bogged down in paper work and systems, the product of So called academics who only polish the seat of their pants.
Whilst I agree with many of the points and matters raised in this Book I fear the Author has himself fallen into the trap of many writers by describing the afore said Systems whilst avoiding much of the interesting events and fun had as a police officer. Would I recommend it, Maybe…………………………..”
John Buckler
No nonsense, honest and thought provoking book from a well respected and successful career detective. Kevin pulls no punches, and in line with his long career in crime-fighting, he is not afraid to tell it how it is…With the current climate of cutting back on police resources, this book warns public and politicians alike of the problems facing the police service, and the danger of continuing to continue the trend of financial cut-backs.”

No holds barred from a highly respected copper….. A great read ….written by someone on “the coal face” who was held in very high esteem by his colleagues.”

I really liked this book. People who are interested in the Police changing its identity over the years will most probably be interested in reading this book. However , anyone without a Police background will find it fascinating to learn how a man went from a young lad as a village bobby to head Sussex Police Criminal Investigation Department.
Readers can gain knowledge of what it was like to work in Sussex Police from the 70s through to 2017 One of the things that was especially interesting was how political correctness and people’s attitude to authority and discipline have changed , in my view , for the worse, and as a result it shows that lack of respect and so called business models in the police have drastically reduced its effectiveness .
This book was very well written , I thoroughly enjoyed it and I highly recommend it. I give this book 5 stars.”

5 out of 5 stars. An honest and sincere reflection.
A brilliant book written by a former senior police officer who tells it as it is. A very authentic and accurate account of the changes in policing with sincerity and ‘doing the right thing’ shining out of every page.

4 out of 5 stars. Interesting inside view of policing.
Very interesting insight into Policing past and present, written by a man who really knows his subject. Police Leadership today comes under the microscope and is definitely found wanting. Management is not the same as Leadership and that comes across very clearly. If you have wondered if the Police have lost interest in actual Policing, placing it in the “too difficult” box, this book makes it clear the front line troops are as committed and dedicated as ever, but the senior Officers – well, that’s a different story. Kevin Moore’s story of his own career is fascinating, even if Policing isn’t a particular interest of yours.”

I have just finished reading your book ‘My Way’ and found it to be a very thought provoking outline of policing in Sussex over many years. Importantly, you have highlighted in strong terms just where policing has more recently lost its way through weak leadership and political interference.”

The book was fascinating, reading about the people you worked with who I knew too. Nigel Yeo was part of the ESSP committee that I chaired for a few years, and there are many other names I am familiar with. Many thanks for taking the trouble to write it.”

I read this book remembering how the late James Sherwood (Chief Superintendent) started off in Buxted and my wife relating stories like you have in the early days. Great read Sir.”

A man of integrity who was willing to take on others. Having served in Sussex, I can not recall coming into contact with the writer. However Kevin is articulate and honest about his experience as the son of a policeman, a serving police officer and as a member of the support staff after his retirement. I have long held the view that the majority of men and women who join the police service, do so with the best of intentions, to serve the general public as best as they can, protecting everyone, whether it be from criminals, terrorists, others on the road, or from themselves. They are prepared to leave their families at the beginning of the day having made the commitment to carry out their duties honestly and diligently, having accepted that they may not return home at the end of their shift. Although you cannot keep this thought at the front of your mind or you would never be able to carry out the job you are paid to do. Kevin has worked through the ranks from uniform Police constable through CID, discipline and complaints to Chief Superintendent of CID, including occasional spells in Uniform as a Superintendent and Chief Superintendent. He has never fought shy of supporting his colleagues, even to the point of taking on the additional work of being involved with the Police Federation. He has done all this not forgetting that he is a police constable and the oath that he made when he first joined the Police. He has done this honestly and firmly even if it has ruffled a few feathers. He deals honestly with the cut backs, and other issues facing Police Officers in the 21st century. As if the fact that proceeds from the sale of the book going to a police charity, I commend it to all with an interest in or having regular interaction with the police at all levels.”

I served with Kevin in the 80’s at Hastings. He was a great cop and remains a real good guy. He deserves a well earned long and happy retirement. Police Sergeant John Moore will be looking down saying , ‘ You did me real proud, son.’ ”

5 out of 5 stars Captivating reading
Super book that really looks at how Policing has moved on over the years. But more than that, it’s a chronicle of a man totally committed to his career.
Highly recommend! ”
